About Us

Welcome to Wildlife Tidbits, where I share fun, science-backed animal facts! My name is Dr. Audra Huffmeyer, and I’m a conservation biologist with over a decade of experience studying some of the world’s most incredible big cats.

My research has taken me around the globe. I earned my PhD in biology from UCLA, where I studied mountain lions in Los Angeles, California. My work focused on their genetics and reproductive health, revealing the first physical signs of inbreeding depression in the population. These findings were instrumental in getting mountain lions listed as an endangered species in California, a major win for conservation.

Before UCLA, I was a Smithsonian Fellow at the Center for Conservation Genomics, where I used cutting-edge genetic tools to study endangered species and inform conservation strategies. Prior to that, I lived in Nepal, where I conducted research on wild tigers. Studying these elusive big cats in their natural habitat deepened my understanding of human-wildlife conflict and the challenges of tiger conservation.

Wildlife has always been my passion, and through Wildlife Tidbits, I want to bring the wonders of the animal kingdom to you through engaging storytelling and education. Whether you’re a lifelong nature lover or just discovering your curiosity for wildlife, my goal is to make learning about animals exciting, accessible, and inspiring for all ages.

From surprising animal behaviors to deep dives into conservation efforts, Wildlife Tidbits is a place where science meets storytelling. I hope you’ll join me in exploring the fascinating world of wildlife—one tidbit at a time!
